Dermal Fillers

What is it?

Gel-like substance made of a naturally occurring compound found in the skin, joints, and eyes called hyaluronic acid. It is mixed with lidocaine, a numbing agent, to make the procedure more comfortable.

Different Fillers for different corrections:

Volbella

  • Thinnest of the fillers

  • Best used for fine lines around the mouth, smoothing the lips and adding a small amount of volume.

  • Minimal swelling post-injection

  • Correction lasts about a year

Juvederm Ultra/Ultra Plus

  • Adds volume to the lower face to correct smile lines around the mouth or parentheses (nasolabial folds), corners of mouth, and in the lips.

Does it hurt?

Topical numbing cream or ice is applied to the area of injection to minimize any discomfort.

What can I expect?

Appointment usually include 10-15 minutes of consultation, 20 minutes for topical numbing cream, and 20-30 minutes of injecting. Appointments are scheduled for 1 hour.

Typically the area of injection is swollen for 2-3 days, possible bruising can occur.

Final results at 2 weeks

Restrictions?

Avoid massaging the areas of filler or laying on the area of injection for 48 hours

Avoid exercise for 24 hours post-injection to minimize swelling.

Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatories 2-3 days prior to injection to minimize bruising

After care

Ice the area of infection for 24-48 hours for swelling and bruising.

Take arnica for any bruising
